Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti dig out old photos to counter PM Modi’s attack on their families

National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah and People’s Democratic Front (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday over comments he made about their respective parties and families earlier in the day.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he will not allow the two families of Jammu and Kashmir — Muftis and Abdullahs — to divide India. “I will not allow Abdullahs and Muftis to divide the country. Main na jhukta hu, na bikta hu,” Narendra Modi said at the rally.

Countering Modi’s remarks, NC’s Omar Abdullah posted a picture of PM Modi embracing former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed.

“This is how much Modi Ji believes what he says. Look how happy he is to seal an alliance with one of the families he wants to rid J&K politics of,” he said.

Abdullah asked PM Modi why he chose two members of the Mufti family as state CMs even after he condemned them in 2014.

“‘We have to rid J&K of these two political families,’ says Modiji in 2014 and then promptly goes and makes not one but two members of the Mufti family CM of J&K,” Abdullah tweeted. “In 2019 Modiji says ‘we have to rid J&K of these two political families’. Another jumla Modiji?”

Mehbooba Mufti, also a former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, joined Abdullah to further attack the PM. Mufti shared a picture of Omar Abdullah greeting PM Modi. “Exhibit B. Modi Ji looks thrilled to be greeted by a dynast,” she said.

PDP chief Mufti agreed with Abdullah’s point and asked PM Modi why he bashes political parties ahead of Lok Sabha elections and then sends his envoys to stitch alliances with the same parties.

“Why does PM bash political families pre-elections and then sends his envoys to stitch alliances with the very same parties? NC in 99 and PDP in 2015. Why do they choose power over Article 370 then?” she asked.

“BJP with its noxious agenda of banishing Muslims and minorities wants to divide India,” she added.

“I for once have never lowered political discourse by abusing opponents including BJP. In order to gain sympathy and consequently power, PM is misleading people by equating himself with the nation. Every Indian owes his allegiance to India not PM Modi. India is not Modi and Modi isn’t India,” she said.

While addressing the rally earlier in the day, PM Modi promised to “stand like a wall” against attempts of NC and PDP to continue their “family rule” in the state.

“Abdullah family and Mufti family destroyed lives of three generations of J&K. The bright future of J&K can be ensured only after their departure. They can bring their entire clan into the field, can abuse Modi as much as they want but they won’t be able to divide this nation,” Modi said.
