Mamata Banerjee hits out at BJP, says we are living under Hitler regime

Trinamool Congress (TMC) president and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee addressed a rally in Kolkata today on the occasion of party’s annual Martyr’s Day.

The TMC is observes the Martyrs’ Day every year on July 21 to pay homage to 13 Youth Congress workers, allegedly killed in police firing in 1993 during the Left Front regime in West Bengal. Mamata was a leader of the Youth Congress at that time.

Here are the top 10 quotes from her speech:

Claiming that the TMC would win all the 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal in the next general elections, CM Mamata Banerjee said the party would oust the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to save the country. “We will win all the 42 Lok Sabha seats in the state. It is our pledge. We will oust the BJP to save the country. We will organise a big rally here in January and invite all the (Opposition) leaders,” she said. The party presently has 34 Lok Sabha seats from West Bengal.
“The 2019 polls will be a big blow for the NDA, and Bengal will show the path,” she said.
Taking a dig at the BJP for the collapse of a makeshift tent at PM Narendra Modi’s rally at Midnapore, she said, “They cannot build a pandal. How can they build the country?” Over 90 people were injured on July 17 after a makeshift tent collapsed in the middle of PM Modi’s speech.
“We are living under Hitler-regime. The dangabaaz (rioters) are running the country.”
Targeting the Centre over recent mob-lynching incidents, Mamata said, “They (BJP) are creating Talibanis among people. In BJP & RSS, there are good people I respect but some are playing dirty games,” Mamata said.
“PM Modi has asked the states to act against the people involved in lynchings. But will PM Modi act against its own ministers who are spreading hatred and rumours?” she asked.
Mamata announced that the TMC will launch ‘BJP hatao, desh bachao (Remove BJP, save country)’ campaign on August 15, which India celebrates as Independence Day.
She also hit out at the Congress and the Left saying: “They talk of unity to fight against the NDA at Centre but have clubbed together with it to fight me in the state. This double standard of Congress will not be accepted.”
The CM said the number of BJP’s Lok Sabha seats would significantly come down in states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Bihar, Odisha, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. “During the no-confidence vote in the Lok Sabha yesterday, they (NDA) got 325 votes, but in the 2019 Lok Sabha election, their strength will come down to barely 100 seats,” she said.
“I will not allow the BJP to conspire and create riots in Bengal. We will not give in…They have even put my party’s parliamentary leader in jail, but we will not surrender,” she said.
