Congress crisis deepens as 10 out of 15 Goa MLAs meet Speaker to join BJP

While Karanataka remains on edge due to the state’s political crisis after the resignation of 16 MLAs from Congress and Janata Dal-Secular, 10 Goa Congress MLAs on Wednesday approached Assembly Speaker Rajesh Patnekar to join the BJP.

The group, led by Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar, met Assembly Speaker in the evening and gave him a letter informing him about them breaking away from the Congress.

Following the political drama, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant reached the Assembly after the MLAs met the Speaker.

The present strength of the Congress party in Goa is 15. With this, the party is left with only five MLAs.

This comes amid the ongoing political row in Karnataka that has been enduring after the resignation of ruling coalition Congress-JDS MLAs.
